Joshua Joyce is a Missouri native, born in the Ozarks in Springfield. He graduated from Mission University in his hometown in 2006, earning multiple awards for excellence in drama and writing. After college, Josh worked at a large megachurch in Illinois before embarking on missionary work in Burkina Faso, West Africa.
In 2011, Josh pursued law at Washington University in St. Louis—then ranked 18th nationally—where he graduated with awards recognizing his academic excellence and dedication to public service. During law school, he was one of only four nationwide selected for a prestigious Air Force JAG accessions program. In November 2014, he became a Judge Advocate.
Josh’s legal career spans prosecution and defense at the highest levels. His work has earned praise from senior Air Force leadership, including two and three-star generals. In 2022, after successfully prosecuting a complex human trafficking case at the southern border, the Department of Justice lauded his trial performance stating that the case was more difficult than many federal prosecutions. He was also among the first to be qualified as Special Trial Counsel.
Following a year-long deployment to the Middle East, Josh served as Senior Defense Counsel, handling some of the Air Force’s most serious criminal cases. He has defended Airmen dealing with charges of murder, manslaughter, sexual violence, espionage, domestic violence, and major drug offenses. A career highlight was securing a two-word verdict from a jury—“not guilty”—in a high-stakes murder and manslaughter trial.
Passionate about litigation, Josh draws inspiration from legendary attorneys such as Gerry Spence (he has trained at the Ranch), David Boies (widely regarded as one of the greatest cross-examiners), Brian Steel (a personal hero), and David Ball (none of the aforementioned implies any endorsement from them). While his expertise has primarily been in criminal trial work, he has recently found success in civil litigation as well, believing that effective jury communication transcends case type.
Josh lives in southeastern Virginia with his wife of 21 years and their two children. He maintains close ties to his Missouri roots, often providing pro bono legal assistance to family and community members.
